I believe in symmetry

An argument for cousciousness
The instinct of the blind insect
Who makes love to the flower bed
And dies in the first freeze
Oh I want to learn such simple things
No politics, no history
Till what I want and what I need
Can finally be the same

final paragraph

"Maybe no one can be against love, but it's still possible to flirt with the idea. Or, as Adam Phillips asks in his own essay on the virtues of flirtation, "What does commitment leave out of this picture that we might want?" Note that "against" is one of a few words--like "cleave," another---that can mean both itself and its opposite. It flirts with paradox. (As, perhaps, does anyone who loves.) To cleave is to split or sever; but to cleave is also to cling to, or remain faithful. As with "against." To be against means to be opposed: resistant or defiant. It also means next to: beside or near. Which leaves the problem of a phrase like "up against" which is indeterminate, bivalent--it can play both sides of the street. "Up against love": you would need to know the context to figure out what it means. Or alter the context--here's an idea to flirt with---which could make it mean something else entirely."

A Polemic

Quote of the week (from the book Against Love by: Laura Kipnis aka Genius):

"And so far it's worked out (knock on wood), no huge disasters (notwithstanding the occasional tense moment, a recrimination here and there), because after all, you're fundamentally a decent person, honest in your fashion, and you don't mean to hurt anyone, and of course you love your partner, or at least can't imagine life apart (or the disruptions and anguish and social ignominy such a breach would entail), but you need--well, what you need isn't entirely the point, and certainly not a discussion you intend to have with yourself (maybe after the kids are in college should there by kids, if not just postponed to some indefinite point in the future) because why open that can of worms, since once opened those worms clearly aren't going to just crawl willingly back into their can and the last thing you want is a big wormy mess on your hands," (9).

sing into the moonlight, who could ask for more

Hello to all!

School: NCC has started up again, thank god. I have been really really wanting to get back. I missed being in the groove of things. I am taking technically 5 classes, Self Defense, Writing for Social Change, Social Class in America (or something like that), Contemporary Issues in Leadership, and Senior Portfolio. I haven't had Senior Portfolio yet, but let me say I am terrified. I am so scared that I am missing some papers that I'll need. And that I'll procrastinate to the point I'll fuck it up. But I can do it....because I have to haha.

Jobs: Noodles has been treating me real shitty and the next time I am coming in, I am threatening to quit because of 3 schedule mishaps that they make me fix. Scheduling issues, when I have given you my schedule, is not my problem. I should not be hecticly searching for someone to cover me, whatsoever. Junior Senior Scholars starts up again next week, and I cannot be less excited. I love those kids, and I love Jan, but working for her is harsh. But think of the positives right?

Books: I am currently reading War is a Force that gives us meaning by: Chris Hedges, and it's amazing. Very intense, and he is so angry, but it's an interesting way on looking at war. Also, my sister, being as kind as she is, bought me a book today called World War Z by: Max Brooks, author of The Zombie Survival Guide. I have always been really interested in reading this book. It seems that it can be suspenseful read, and to be honest, I am excited. :)

Hopefully this term goes well.

Will keep updates about books that I have been reading via quotes that I find very intense. Starting with this one.

[[The first line in the book, War is A Force that Gives us Meaning]]

"only the dead see the end of war." -Plato
